Myofascial Release at New Body Barn, Devizes
Myofascial Release is a highly effective treatment approach that focuses on releasing the restrictions in the fascial system of the body.
It is a gentle, whole body, hands-on treatment that aims to release the restrictions that can build up over time. The resulting release can be likened to the removal of a ‘Straight Jacket’.
When an individual has a movement restriction with associated pain that appears to have no cause and when investigated with hospital body scanning equipment, still no cause is found, this is usually a fascial restriction. At present the scanning technology readily available in our medical system does not show these restrictions as the fibres are so fine. As a result we are often left with undiagnosed pain and confronted by the thought that we have to live with this pain or discomfort.
Fascia (which is a connective tissue) is a three dimensional web, a continuous woven structure connecting and infusing all other structures within the body; muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and organs. When healthy, the fascial system is strong and flexible and appears as a fine web-like network covered with droplets of fluid. This fluid, ground substance, allows freedom and fluidity of pain free movement. However inflammatory responses, surgery and, trauma, such as stress, repetitive strain and even emotional trauma can create dehydration of the fluid-like ground substance, drawing fascial fibres together and creating extreme tension and compression of other structures within the body.
Non-invasive and gentle hands-on techniques
The John F. Barnes technique is a non-invasive and gentle hands-on, soft tissue approach that works on releasing the fascial network of the whole body. The technique requires the application of gentle sustained pressure upon restricted tissue. As the restrictions yield, the pressure is maintained in order to follow the trail deeper until the tissue becomes more pliable and the ground substance melts back into its fluid state. These releases remove the tensile pressure from pain sensitive structures such as nerves and blood vessels and restore the alignment, functionality and mobility to muscles and joint.
After their treatment, clients often feel as if their ‘straight jacket’ of pressure has been removed. They are able to adopt a more balanced posture which enables ease of movement and a greater sense of positive energy flowing throughout the body.
John F. Barnes states that the release of the fascial network also “facilitates the emergence of emotional patterns and belief systems that are no longer relevant or impeding progress” of healing. (ref: J. F. Barnes ‘In search of Excellence’.)
